Geography of the Panchayat
Paippad is a major village panchayat in the Changanassery taluk of Kottayam district, falling under the Madappally block limits. The main geographical features of this area, which is part of the Changanassery Urban Agglomeration, are as follows:
1. Location and Boundaries:
District/Taluk: Kottayam district, Changanassery taluk.
Boundaries: Payippad village panchayat is bounded by Changanassery Municipality to the north-west, Thiruvalla Municipality of Pathanamthitta district to the south-west, Mallappally Taluk to the east and Chengannur to the south.
It is located about 7 km east of Changanassery Municipal Junction and about 5 km north of Thiruvalla town.
2. Area and Topography:
This panchayat has an area of about 20.88 square kilometers.
It has the unique Midland topography of Central Travancore. The land here is a mixture of plains, small hills, valleys and fields.
It has fertile soil suitable for agriculture. Rubber, coconut, banana, kappa (cassava) and vegetables are the main crops here.
3. Climate:
PaIppad has a tropical monsoon climate.
The average annual rainfall is 1,800 mm to 3,000 mm. The most rainfall occurs during the Edavapathi (June-September) and Thulavarsham (October-November) seasons.
The average temperature ranges from 22 °C to 34 °C. The hottest months are March and April.
4. Water bodies:
Being close to the Kuttanad region, there are many small and large streams, ponds and water bodies in this area. Areas like Pallikachira and Thuruthikadavu are connected to water bodies.
5. Transport geography:
The Changanassery–Kaviyoor road (part of National Highway 183) passes through this panchayat.
The nearest major railway stations are Thiruvalla (5 km) and Changanassery (7 km).
